Österreichische Türken gedenken türkischer Juden

Einladung

In the Ghetto

Welcome to Peace Village, Canada’s first Islamic subdivision, where all 260 homes belong to members the Ahmadiyya sect, who flooded to Canada in the 1980s after persecution in Pakistan. It looks ordinary, with basketball nets and minivans in the driveways, until you notice the street signs: Mahmood Crescent, Ahmadiyya Avenue and Noor-Ud-Din Court.
“There is nothing like this in North America,” boasts Naseer Ahmad, a real estate agent from Pakistan who dreamed up this community of Islamic dream homes (including oak stairs and central air conditioning) on the edge of Toronto. “You have a mosque, and people are walking to enjoy their faith.”

Mark Kirk: Gerechtigkeit für die Baha’i

There is a little-told story from Iran—a story we thought would forever stay buried in the darkness of 1930s Europe. This story is about a religion founded in Iran in the mid-1800s that has become Iran’s largest religious minority with over 250,000 members.
As the representative in Congress for the Baha’i Temple of North America, I know the Baha’i faith well—a faith of tolerance and diversity of thought. These are values we embrace on the North Shore. But in an oppressive Islamic dictatorship like Iran, Baha’is pose a clear and present danger to the regime.

Big Bang from Belgium

“To the Editor:

The United States, once a close ally, is now a country to be feared.
The interrogation methods President Bush acknowledges to exist are
undoubtedly torture, no matter how often he repeats that they are not.

As a European, I am now afraid to visit the United States and will not
do so unless I have to for my work for fear of doing something wrong at
the airport and being detained for a prolonged if not indefinite
period of time. I also do not to dare express critical views in e-mail
messages to American colleagues and friends, for fear they will get in
trouble with authorities. This is how my contacts with the United States, a
once friendly nation, have evolved.

Kees Schepers, Antwerp, Belgium, Oct. 6, 2007”

Kees Schepers is afraid. He is very afraid. Then again, he’s not afraid
to denounce America on the pages...

Maskenball in Treviso

A row has broken out in Italy over the wearing of the burka after the prefect of a city in the north-east announced he was permitting it, despite legislation outlawing any clothing that stops the wearer being recognised. Vittorio Capocelli, the prefect of Treviso, near Venice, made his ruling after meeting immigrants’ representatives. He said women who sought to wear the burka for religious reasons were free to do so, but would have to reveal their features if asked to do so for the purposes of identification.

Cal Thomas: Ausverkauf auf Raten

At every negotiating session, Israel is pressured into making concessions for “peace” and receives more war in response. Mostly this is because of the wishful thinking in the West that has replaced sound policy. Why should the Palestinians make concessions when they are drawing closer to their objective of eradicating Israel by throwing stones and bombs and stonewalling negotiations? http://www.townhall.com/columnists/CalThomas/2007/10/11/selling_out_israel_on_the_installment_plan

Count the ways Israel is under siege: from Iranians building a nuclear bomb, Syrians stockpiling chemical weapons, Egyptians and Saudis developing serious conventional forces, Hizbullah attacking from Lebanon, Fatah from the West Bank, Hamas from Gaza, and Israel’s Muslim citizens becoming politically restive and more violent.

Der kranke Mann am Bosporus

Turkey’s government on Thursday warned the U.S. that a congressional bill recognizing the mass killings of Armenians during World War One as genocide could jeopardize relations between the two countries. In a statement, Turkey’s foreign ministry said the country’s government “resents and condemns this decision” and called the resolution an “irresponsible act” at an “extremely critical time.”
